Did Xiaomi just make the best Foldable Phone yet?

This is the biggest change in

foldable

smart

phone

s in the last four years. If you wanted a

foldable

smart

phone

you had pretty much no choice but to

just

buy a Samsung, but this seems like something special. People are calling it the Samsung killer, so what we have to do is find out if that's enough to finally turn the tide of the

foldable

market that's been dubbed The Mix Fold 2, and its packaging immediately blows Samsung over like it would compare to the z-fold 4 which literally comes with cable and the

phone

has a higher quality folding box with a

xiaomi

vip service card on top what happens when we actually dial into that number is right okay on this

phone

ignore You that, but to be fair even without that supposed VIP service you still not only have the

phone

but also a hard case which is so good because not only is it protection but it's also a really solid stand, to put the device on a 67 watt fast charger and then on the charging cable sim e jector tool and also a head

phone

jack adapter, this is where it gets interesting, but literally the moment I read this pla Removing the sticker from this

phone

, I was hit with my second realization that this is what a

foldable

phone

should feel like, and I'm not even referring to it.

It's one of the thinnest smart

phone

s in the world when it's impressive enough to hold it when it's folded Condition feels like a regular

phone

, the combination of its slightly wider ratio compared to Samsung's narrower hinge that protrudes less, the improved screen-to-body ratio on the front, and

just

the

phone

's slimmer overall body

make

s Samsung's current folded

phone

look at least two It looks generations old, and it's not

just

an aesthetic thing, it actually

make

s the front screen more user-friendly meaning you can watch Netflix without it feeling cramped and cut off. I finally get a full-size keyboard, but I can use my two giant thumbs to type, not to mention in a form factor that doesn't feel like I have a third leg in my pocket,

just

to give you an idea to give, while Samsung's latest Z-Fold 4 is around 15.8 millimeters thick it's 11.2, which is a big difference and not really much more than a regular

phone

which would be around 9 millimeters and around that To top it all off, it also

just

looks neater thanks to a new type of hinge that allows it to fold completely flat, rather than the screen bezels that normally slant, to match the

phone

's natural curvature and a centralized camera module on the back that takes the shake out of the screen Table reduced, it's not hard to see why this

phone

is being dubbed the Samsung killer, and then when I noticed the next, the two can dodge that too Samsung in performance and I'm not

just

talking about benchmark scores, I've noticed it in Wi-Fi download speeds too and while I'm by no means talking about generational leaps here, the simple fact is that these are even on par with this one can, in it is If you take into account that a Samsung has a thicker

phone

with more space in it, the Samsung is more expensive, even if you pay the extra cost of importing the

Xiaomi

, it will still cost you 10 less, and then C fair enough that the z44 is already incredibly fast with that new top end snapdragon 8 plus gen 1 chip and 12GB RAM that the

xiaomi

also shares, I can't understand how cool it feels to be able to play games, that look so good A screen with so much space on a

phone

this thin gets a little hotter than Samsung when you really put a load on it, but when you actually look at what happens to the performance numbers after you persevere Samsung's performance actually falls a lot faster and to be really honest, I was expecting to tell you that Whoa peed my butt.

I was expecting to tell you that the software is what ruins it, as has been the case with most other

foldable

devices up to this point, but that's not really the case either, there's nothing else aside from that fact that

Xiaomi

has created its own software skin

just

for

foldable

devices called MIUI fold, tap the power button which also scans your fingerprint in the process and you're on a home screen that takes full advantage of the extra screen real estate, you now get three extra icons on your dog to help you quickly juggle recent apps open and the floating window tab on the other hand is really useful even play games in this floating window not to mention the huge and ever expanding one Suite of MIUI customization.

I'll say now that I still don't think it's entirely up to Snuff with Samsung who really had time to think about the finer points of optimizing every single interaction, like e.g. B.

Xiaomi

, you can only share apps vertically and not horizontally. So if you try to watch a video while doing something else, that video will be a tiny little window in the middle, but to be fair, the two weeks I've had that is how I still felt of having enough extra tools to

just

ify having a

foldable

over a regular flagship. The only other thing that was a bit odd was that this

phone

really doesn't want you to use Google apps like Chrome, it

just

wouldn't install, and it treats gboard like a security risk to the point of including which you have to go to a separate menu

just

to activate the option, possibly going there, but assuming that's only because it's a Chinese model, it's almost hard to see where the problem lies with this

phone

, itself the battery and cameras that match its expensive arrival very well like it, being so thin

make

s up for it by being able to charge twice as fast in 40 minutes as Samsung does in 1 hour 30 and then actually come with the charger, to do that, and then for the cameras you have a good quality 50-megapixel main sensor that shoot s reliable, mostly natural photos in all different lighting conditions plus the klas physical advantage of being able to take selfies with this rear camera.

I mean, tell me, this isn't the craziest selfie action you've ever seen, but here comes the problem. As much as I think Samsung and

Xiaomi

are making the most of this

foldable

form factor, as much as they're using these

phone

s Having multitasking elements and

foldable

features does not change the fact that this core style of the

phone

is full screen on the front and then a larger inner screen concept. It's fundamentally inefficient. The design means you need two completely separate screens and three sets of cameras, although you can only use one at a time, apart from the completely unnecessary cost also means that the folded

phone

is not only inconvenient, but you don't benefit from it either. that it's thick, in a way it's not currently The

phone

is stacked inside with components that

make

it run faster or take better photos.

It's

just

multiple layers of repeated metal body and unused display, and you might think that

Xiaomi

got it right, that it feels like a regular

phone

when folded well, yes, but to get there while keeping all the inefficiencies that a

foldable

design like this entails, they had to remove about half of what

make

s the Samsung compelling in the first place, for example the hinge, the only reason

Xiaomi

managed to have a lower profile hinge than Samsung

make

s it less robust. When you open this

phone

, you'll find that it's

just

a sort of spring fully open, rather than Samsung's entire Flex Mode feature, which gives you 40 degrees of freedom for the hinge to hold itself and the apps can adapt to it, or I mean technically this

Xiaomi

has a dual speaker system tuned by Harman Kardon.

It's not very good, although you can set the equalizer how you like, but the sheer physics of trying to pump a punchy sound out of a five-millimeter layer of

phone

just

doesn't add up and the end result is that it

just

sounds tinny but a sub for the channel would be harmonious, oh with the cameras yes the main sensor usually takes good photos but both the ultra wide and zoom cameras have been massively toned down to try and minimize the lead. They're both solid in bright light conditions, but fall apart when the light starts to drop.
We

just

found some wild deer here let's see if we can use the zoom camera to actually take a decent photo which isn't that great oh dear and you also know that selfie cam inside which is actually

just

is an ambient light sensor. There's no camera here, which again is something

Xiaomi

somehow had to do to

make

the

phone

that slim, but it doesn't work with a form factor like this. Yes, you can flip the

phone

to take selfies with the rear camera, and you know I'm usually all for it, but this isn't a z-flip

phone

u Unlike those

phone

s, and unlike other flagships that have Having a second rear screen on the back, the width of this thing is a pretty awkward maneuver, and what you do when you want to

make

a video call with someone you couldn't do it on the main screen and I'm not even going to get on those nor go into huge creases running down the middle, lack of water resistance or stylus compatibility, how videos don't fill the screen, how most apps don't use space, as the only real solution is to use them in the

phone

's normal aspect ratio to execute, but then what's the point and how, while great, the mix fold comes with an included case, you'll never be able to Being able to properly protect a

phone

that way around like you can so easily with a regular bathroom might

just

be a matter of mine, but even with this case I'm constantly worried about dropping this

phone

because I have to Feeling like I wouldn't be doing too well I'm not exactly saying

Xiaomi

made wrong decisions with this

phone

because let's face it, Samsung is too fat for most people so something had to go.

Just

saying I don't think you can win with this format of

phone

either way you're screwed either way you're for a mainstream audience if you're one of those particular enthusiasts who know these

foldable

devices are for you then you are probably right but for the majority of you viewing this market from afar and tempted this is your case chin up now is probably not the time for you to

make

the leap to see me unbox the Tesla Electro

phone
