From Handheld to Console - Scott The Woz
scott i've been thinking a lot about myself figuring out who i am what i was meant to do the only thing i can do that no one else can is blow up the crap it's been done if there is one thing. i want to play game boy it's moderation i can do it myself
handheld gaming has always been one of the most popular forms of gaming but they just can't achieve what a home
console can, more powerful hardware, better feeling of control, while laptops have their place in some games. it just works better on
console hence a lot of
handheld exclusives repackaged bro home release case in point secret agent clank im not playing that i had always dreamed of a
handheld capable of gaming experiences
console all my life and in 2005 all my prayers were answered with the playstation portable the legendary home
console to finally go the psp was pretty close to a playstation 2 quality wise i mean it wasn't that great but in a screen as small as this it can be hard to tell, but due to the comparisons that can be made between ps2 and psp games numerous series of the ps2 era made the jump to
handhelds with psp ratchet and clang jack and daxter each getting exclusive entries in this little one and played very similarly to their home
console counterparts in series like grand theft auto however it already had pre-existing examples of entries po rportables grand theft auto liberty city stories and vice city stories two original gta titles exclusive to psp thats awesome and something you just dont see these days it would be one thing to play grand theft auto 3 on the go but to play a game on the go pair with grand theft auto 3 on the go its an original game to boot i mean with how expensive game development is these days they would have just put any old gta game on the psp which does the stories Liberty City and Vice City that much more special to me the first time we finally got to play Grand Theft Auto 3D on the go and it was totally unique adventures for eight months. in porting from psp to ps2 due to the similarity of the games on both platforms the psp was great for ps2 games to run on and vice versa it's amazing how many psp exclusives made it to the ps2 considering how was this a few years later the life of the playstation 3 they never underestimate how well the ps2 sold with an installed base of over 150 million systems you'd be stupid if you weren't stupid it supports the playstation 2 without actually supporting the playstation 2 finally you can let your neighbors know you play secret agent clank again without requesting these games came first to psp then ps2 which mostly happened later in the life of the system with games like safe and filter logan's shadow released in the platform until 2010. that was the year god of war 3 released as jesus christ but you know sony i have to give you credit ford will no longer service my model t and you know very well they wouldn't release secret agent clank either so well come on take a look at some of these psp to ps2 conversions grand theft auto games were some of the first games with liberty city stories to be released on psp in october of 2005 and then on ps2 in june 2006. its more than usable gta on both platforms so some features were removed from the ps2 version, no multiplayer or custom soundtracks, you can play your own music just like on the psp, there is also no snow on the ps2 version of a specific mission, the playstation 2 version is.
They look better with higher quality graphics. The textures affect the performance, although it seems more boring to me, but that could be the realism that takes over the PS2 game. it's still the same psp game in essence that you have to get used to with conversions like this, a jump from
console really describes how these games aren't all that impressive when played at home on the big screen for sure. looks better now but i can't take it anymore so now there's not so much of an excuse why fingers do what fingers want yea the game looks more realistic now i'm legally blind too. city stories is only 20 on playstation 2 at launch although half the price of the psp version due to the removal of multiplayer in custom soundtracks which made this an absolute steal i mean not even we haven't even covered the mere fact that the game controls leagues better here than on psp simply because of the second analog stick and a set of side buttons have you ever played a psp game yeah you've cried the things you're willing to put up with it for the sake of portability?
It's almost tolerable, but having to stop and hold the left shoulder button to move the camera can be brutally annoying, the ps2 version is much more comfortable to play in this regard, but it's not as nice, I'll be honest, most aaa psp exclusives like their charm comes from the fact that they are on the psp they are good games at their core but when you put them on something like a ps2 a lot of that magic is lost for me they can play and watch better but liberty city stories was always meant to be a traditional
handheld gta game so when you remove the portability it's still good but you get this feeling when you play it on ps2 i should have finished high school, liberty city stories its better on ps2 it plays on psp it works fine on the go and this was where it was supposed to be played plus its still a great novelty to play games like this on such a small system playing on the ps2 i wonder You'll see why you're not just playing San Andreas and the same goes for the game's sequel Vice City Stories released for PSP in October 2006 and PSP in March 2007.
Multiplayer and PSP cut from PS2, now the PSP version received exclusive bonus content, pretty minor stuff, but stuff that is nonetheless paired with better visuals. and control s and you also have the best version of grand theft auto vice city stories the worst you can make that argument about most games from psp to ps2 for example motorstorm arctic edge psp sep 2009 ps2 oct 2009 jesus sony let me blink motorstorm was a graphic display on playstation 3 mud effects car crashes lighting all in glorious hd well the game itself was fun you will most likely buy it to see something arctic edge was the psp's entry into the series and for the psp this is great and the ps2 i'm done as a man this is the screen i play motor storm on don't show this the graphical degradation is much more welcome on
handheld on tv like we already have two games of motorstorm in hd before this the series was born in hd and you think this is going to be exciting well it has split screen multiplayer unlike the psp version it lacks the online multiplayer the photo mode arctic edge custom soundtracks on ps2 not bad but its existence is much more questionable than the psp release yes ps2 owners back in 2009 deserved a racing game because im scared what they would do if they weren't busy, but it feels weird playing this game on my tv when it's technically newer than this.
The Twisted Metal game head-on at least took much longer to come to the PlayStation 2 with the PSP version releasing in March 2005 as a launch title for the
handheld and the PS2 version coming out in February 2008 this seems to me. much more natural than motorstorm on ps2 i mean there was no twisted metal on ps3 at the time and since twisted metal black was one of the first major games on the
console i found it a fitting swan song for playstation 2 Five years later, the extra twisted front edition is amazing it can almost be considered a new game with the amount of content added sure the online multiplayer was removed but instead there are all sorts of things a new level a completely separate mode with stage. it's from a canceled sequel to twist metal black being able to play as twisted metal's mascot gourmand out of the car that was a purse for additional footage of the series including a documentary and cut endings for the first twisted medal as oh my god this did the jump to the
console with pride and this he did out of spite.
I'm breaking the rules a bit with this one. I hope the government does the same. I would marry this game just to get through the divorce. Jack and Daxter. psp and ps2 exactly the same day but you can't fool me this was always a playstation portable game and they just released it on ps2 last minute because without the ps2 version releasing well thank god it did , this is just one of those psp entries in a franchise you know of, oh this doesn't matter for the core story, oh it's made by a b team developer not the original developer of the series oh it's a computer
handheld so who cares and even worse this. it's not even a chance Since one of those games, The Lost Frontier suffers from simply having no direction in putting the series in the hands of people who had no idea how to extend the franchise beyond the original trilogy on Playstation 2, both in the game like story, which is what's so insulting about this one. the fact that it's on ps2 right next to the rest of them if it was a psp exclusive i don't think it would be as offensive as oh it's just a little portable spinoff no you can play this under a roof it's scary imagining that sound size matters on psp i get the title it's supposed to be a reference to being on a smaller screen cute on ps2 the reference doesn't land if it's not on a
handheld what does this mean? i have no idea earthly that's why i prefer the version released in other regions ratchet and clank your small this was developed by the same team that made the lost frontier so yes this was one of their talents do you think they can sing size matters is perfectly fine ok but the psp version is g Overall it is considered better as it is a more complete and stable release.
Size matters on PS2. It can fail with a worse camera which is often too close to your character. It hit the gig a little over a year after the PSP release, but they didn't add anything. at the time if anything they scaled back the content no more multiplayer as usual but also strangely missing a scene from the ps2 port it took a year for them to change their minds it all comes down to secret agent clank always He does these three games by himself. they don't work on a
console in the context they're presented in, of course, does that mean I never want them on a
console? day after day with their respective psp versions and you can tell they were only meant to be smaller scale psp games but they threw up on the playstation 2 to give that system a few more releases come on secret agent clank on ps2 birds ru apply for the senate it's the same, how the hell did you get here? a lot of these games don't make sense on playstation 2. that doesn't mean they can't be on a
console ever, no i mean in the context of a new playstation 2 game by the time you shop in the store and expect a playstation 2 game there is often nothing to indicate that these are anything but a standard playstation 2 game and while all of these games work fine on
console they are here kindly of the highlights how many
handheld games are actually designed around to that smaller experience I tell you man these games were just meant to be played in an environment where you don't expect that much from them because once you put them on a
console it's in rival gang territory some other games from psp came to ps2 like wipeout pulse in europe and siphon filter game showing this was a lucrative plan for sony i mean take a game that is already made and put it on a
console that can You can run it easily and you have a recipe for failure yourself I would say existence so they kept this plan with the playstation v to order them you would think vita games like uncharted golden abyss and killzone mercenary would have been quick and dirty playstation 3 games to spit out in 2014 after the release of ps4 to give its previous
console a final year of big name games from sony but i think the state of gaming at the time would have made that strategy pretty flawed the ps3 positioned itself as this powerhouse blockbuster when playing an unknown game did you know to take these vita games and do a quick and dirty blast i dont think it would have worked that well the ps3 had a reputation with graphics the ps2 didnt but whatever on this thing, Sony will do it why can't I yeah yeah some psp games to remaster for ps3 those were tagged as such it wasn't like it was on the ps2 like well it came out It is not played indoors, however some PlayStation Vita games made their way to PlayStation 3.
First Up Hotshot's Golf World Invitational Originally a Vita launch title in early 2012, the PS3 launch happened digitally only in the summer. from 2013. a bigger skill game like this just being digital definitely undermines its importance in my opinion i mean this is the6th mainline game in the golf hot shots series it wasn't just as a
handheld spinoff no it was literally numbered six in japan and the ps3 version isn't far behind at all basically everything from the original de vita, is posted here. and then some sure like the touch screen support now and that part of the game is obviously worse but this is the same game now with much better visuals, extra content and free DLC modes, the UI is still clean feels tailor made for a laptop but this is the same game but better honestly wish they would do more vita ports like this on ps3.
And I say I think they promised Sony an Assassin's Creed exclusive before they thought of this deal what this game is about. It just didn't have the budget to be what it should have been. It's not like the vita couldn't handle an Assassin's Creed game. is that Ubisoft couldn't handle a full-blown Assassin's Creed game for the vita that's a shame. Considering that the story and characters of this game have enormous potential, the main character may be one of the most interesting parts of the entire series, but it's all in a random side game, just over a year after the initial release.
Assassin's Creed 3 Liberation HD was released digitally. on ps3 360 and pc which will solve everything when you blow up a game like this really highlights the problems i had originally while being so much more accessible this way it's now so much easier to see where compromises were made with core game design to get this title out on time and on budget for a flawed
handheld as we go, while this is the ultimate way to play, it's never going to feel like an awkward experience on a home
console, just go It's best compared to superior Assassin's titles Believe Veda, you're playing it on the Vita, at least with a game like Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate, which is less of a home
console grab-and-go wannabe and more of its own thing that released. right next to arkham origins in 3ds and vita and its a 2.5d side scroller the camera angles try to trick you into thinking its anything but nonetheless im no dummy i bought this game thrice the black8 deluxe edition of batman arkham origin it came to wii u 360 ps3 and pc just a little over five months later digitally it just includes lots of extra features new difficulty options costumes maps to make this game work i have no problem with
consoles it's so different from the main arkham games it's feels more like a unique twist-off rather than something trying to pass off as a traditional entry like deliverance or lost frontier of course the only reason they made a 2d batman arkham game is to put it on a
handheld , but that doesn't take away and since this is a unique experience anywhere you play it and visually it's a nice boost to the 3ds's life uh, I wouldn't call it to a step up i would call it a step up 3ds games coming to home
consoles are a godsend hey i love this stupid piece but its a stupid piece have you seen this screen cause i cant see some games so good as the ones that were here?
You only wish they were somewhere else, and luckily a handful of titles did just that. Starting with Resident Evil Revelations, a technical masterpiece for 3ds, without a doubt, I mean it looks like an xbox 360 game that was censored. it's a game that feels good with a controller on a big screen TV. This was originally seen as a return to form for the series as recent entries were more action focused with this one more horror focused and because of that man this guy. of experience it just works better at home as on a
handheld if something scares you it's more accessible listening love revelations how a 3ds game was made for the platform and it's undeniably awesome however it's obvious where it would work better unlike psp grand theft cars and assassin's creed 3 release reveals is more of a game type of its own rather than trying to be a portable companion title so i think it feels right at home on a big tv it doesn't feel like it's trying of being something it's not but that doesn't take away from the original release now i'm a simple man i don't play castlevania lords of shadow mirror of fate and i live my life by that motto and now i'm ruining my life's work you know how surprised i was how fast which went from 3ds to 360 and ps3 but actually it was the other way around as the title was initially developed for those systems then ported to 3ds and then to 360 and ps3 it seems a little backwards, but hey. exempts it from being a game, going from
console technically the law may be a good thing now that nintendo isn't immune to bringing its own
handheld titles to home
consoles, though not as often as you think sushi Striker the way of sushido released on nintendo 3ds and nintendo switch on the same day, however it was originally revealed to be a 3ds exclusive of all 3ds games to bring to switch.
I see how it is, this is always a weird game to jump into, not because it's bad but because of the kind of game it was. a 2d puzzle game played on two screens using touch, yes it's perfect for my home theater setup, a good chunk of the game had to be tweaked to work on a singular screen but they made it possible , it's obvious this was brought in due to the simplicity of all of this 2dr most likely being created in HD to begin with, so it wouldn't have required as much work as, say, bringing Kirby Battle Royale to the platform.
Well I'm happy this game has twice the chance to succeed du To be on more systems I don't think split timelines are much different, honestly if this game should have gone anywhere I think it would have fit perfectly on mobile phones. I don't know, it's hard to make games that were designed for the booklets look at home elsewhere sometimes, but damn, Nintendo tried to get Mitopia to make the leap from 3ds to change with a beautiful facelift. I'm sure some models and environments look a bit simpler and or blocky but for the most part this looks like a modern nintendo game which doesn't take away from the fact that why bring this isn't even a sushi striker situation in the which oh its easy to bring this in had to get a full graphical facelift additional content plus consolidating everything on one screen i guess of all the 3ds games they could bring in for a change mitopia filled the biggest gap i mean , why bring the zelda link between worlds when you already do? have link's awakening why metroid samus returns when you already have dread why yoshi's new island when you already have depression nintendo is pretty conservative in bringing old portable titles to a home system and i think that shows how they have a very different philosophy behind this kind of thing more often they put
console games on
handheld devices, although putting
handheld games on
consoles seems to me like it would be easier, but it seems like they only do it when they have a reason, either to present a game in a new light or with a new hack kirby's dreamland on the gameboy received a truncated remake inside kirby superstar and warioware mega micro games from the gameboy advance was brought to the gamecube via mega party games this is basically a stripped down version of that gba game with multiplayer modes yes a game boy advance simplified game released for gamecube when mom said i could be anything when i grow up i sure I never thought she would have meant that I would be owning these pickup party games it's so weird like it's basically an excuse to give you multiplayer modes to play all the warioware microgames in single player it's basically a playlist of all microgames with no story scenes or extra unlockables like In the GBA version, the microgames don't even hide the fact that they're from the Game Boy Advance.
It definitely helps that the multiplayer modes are as fun as they are, but this is such a limited game that I feel like they cut more features than they had. added i understand this is for multiplayer but for a straight conversion from the original with no graphical enhancements whatsoever, a ton of content was removed and a handful of multiplayer modes added i can't help but feel like it's not enough or how little it was done and how much was removed from the main game? in game creation showcase is just a showcase for created games that you can transfer from the ds wirelessly to play on the big screen, though you can still play showcase as your own smaller warioware game complete with cut scenes and microgames diy exclusives on the ds these are not the same games though they do complement each other unlike phoenix wright downloadable games on wii whatever the definition of trying i know what its not some devs thought in bringing your nintendo ds franchises to the wii i mean it made sense touch screen using the pointer on the wii remote yes that works let's see it come to life on a
Makes sense listen if all
handheld games could be on
console and all
console games could be on laptop that would be the dream but I don't think
handheld games always feel good in the home many were designed in very different ways compared to
console counterparts they can be much more compact with unique structures like episodic and mission based formulas not that they are bad or don't belong on
consoles its just different and shows how they separate the
console gaming may be, but these brave companies went against the norm and sacrificed design integrity for lazy money.
Good luck. I would never do that for lazy money. jester during the reign of sega genesis sega introduced the gaming gear as its portable competition against the nintendo game boy using technology incredibly similar to that of the genesis predecessor the sega master system which was also supported at the time the master system experienced continued success throughout the 90's in Europe and especially in Brazil, while North America almost forgot about the
console. We kept getting releases with a lot coming from the game team and a lot of game team titles coming from Sonic 1 2 and the chaos for the game team came from the master system, even though Sonic Blast and Spin Ball moved from the game team to the master system, just like the streets. from rage 1 and 2 mortal kombat 1 2 and 3 dr robotnik's mean mean machine and a bunch of licensed games this was sega's strategy with these
consoles they were basically the same for a while there and it made sense that it was a very clever way of It's still compatible with both platforms but it takes away a lot of the libraries from both systems, the sega master system version was almost always superior just for being a bit more powerful and not having to zoom in as much as the team versions did of the game and damn it's great to finally play sonic 1 on a tv wow if all this experience has taught me anything it's that there's more to
handheld gaming than you think a lot of the times embedded in their design is something fundamentally different than you'd find on a home
console, which makes a lot of these conversions a bit fiddly, but that makes me respect these portable inputs all the more, they're more complex than what they look like just because something smaller doesn't mean they aren't. there's a lot going on like imagine if i were smaller like an ant can you imagine if i were a girl i wish i couldn't you
