Geometry Part 25 Given Volume of Box Find Missing Dimension
hi stranger let's start in this video we are going to talk about when we are
given
the volume
of a box and asked to find
the missing
dimension
so in this example a box has a volume
of 1080 cubic feet if the dimension
s of the base is 15 feet by 12 feet how can we find
the height of the box the unknown dimension
we are still going to use our formula for the volume
of a box which is volume
equal to length times width times height or the area of the base times the height, but what's missing
this time is not volume
, so we're going to have a little equation to solve, we're going to replace v for volume
with what is equal to 1080 cubic feet and that's going to be equal to the length l that is 15 feet times the width which is 12 feet times the height which we all know is called x so simplifying on the right hand side of the equation we have 1080 equals 15 times 12 is 180 times x now how do we get that x times x itself is being multiplied by 180, so let's divide both of them? sides of the equals sign times 180 holding the balance and so six equals x, that means we just found that the height of this box is six feet.![geometry part 25 given volume of box find missing dimension]()
