I'm DONE with Path of Exile...
hey guys matthew in todays video i'm going to bring you an update on the state of game now its something i've been pretty quiet about on the radio however now the gdg has tripled in vision once again to 3.15 huh i decided that it was about time he talked about it because there's a good chance he's basically leaving Poe for calandra lake league 3.19 if there's nothing in the next few days that shows some kind of real ggg goodwill because right now our only The hope is that investors will actually call them up and make some changes because these types of posts are disgusting, at best, they literally just spit in our faces and for those who might not.
Realize I'll go ahead and basically give you a breakdown of what this means so they say they've massively increased the number of rarity bonuses now first of all nobody gives a shit that most unique items in this game they are absolutely work However rare and rare items are leaked because no one wants to see them so rarity bonuses are completely useless huh massively increased to rarity again completely useless we are just going to get more shards than they might actually be useful because holding alts is essentially impossible this league um globally increases unique item drop rates by 33 again the same kind of situation is great we might be able to hold our alex when running maps but that's everything and we have globally increased the price rate of currency items by 25 now that you look at these numbers and you might say which is ok this is pretty cool here is the problem when they say they have increased it by 25 they are talking about the current values which means if you were making a map and you are or if you were getting four alchemies every five maps in Right now you will get five alchemies every five maps it makes no real difference and the reason is yes these numbers look great but no this is manipulation this is literally this is trying to make us believe something just giving us numbers that are arbitrary and have no meaning at all.
There is nothing real here. There is nothing concrete. I know this isn't going to be something most players would do but the absolute estimate is that loot reduction is about 90-95 percent this is on the high end so of course if you're doing as i'll go to the maps it's probably more like 50 or 60 percent nerf which is probably what i would consider to be the case as you know i've been playing this game for quite some time and my drops in the maps feel as they are basically in the middle of the op and go maps of what they used to be fine so when they say they are increasing this by 25 if we are taking what used to be one hundred percent and they would reduce it by 90 and I am being generous here that means we now have 10 percent left if they think they're actually going to improve this by 25 it means we're actually only getting 12.5 percent of what we used to have it's ridiculous it's ridiculous it doesn't make any change this is literally not pr true it's pr at best it's tampering it's worse and it's complete why you as a potentially casual player as a newer player as someone who wasn't expected to do these daily 100 super juices on that map or create perfect mirror level items due to crop changes huh it could be like ah none of this affects me man I don't care ok well here's the thing the
exile is a trickle down economy what what that means is that the people at the top are supplying the people below them, that they are supplying the people below them, that they are supplying the people below them right the people like me who used to make perfect level items mirror since we're trying to make these perfect mirror level items we're going to make things we consider failures not good enough but still pretty good now these items that aren't good enough fairly good but still pretty good they are will be sold to the people below us and to those people they will be upgrades and because we are trying to create the absolute best item we sell them for much cheaper than we probably could otherwise because the idea is just Basically, keep going until we get the best.
Now people who buy our items correctly, which are good enough but not quite perfect, will be able to get them as upgrades that allow them to sell whatever item they are using. them and what they do is when they get an upgrade they sell their current gear for less than what it's worth right now you can see this going down to the absolute minimum you know the players who are basically just putting in maps and what this It does is that the price is constantly going down so the perfect items will always essentially be the ceiling, but after that the good enough but not quite perfect item will continue to drop in price as time goes by because there are more and more offer as people try to build the best and there are less people that need these upgrades so the price is going to go down now because people are buying these upgrades and selling theirs and because there are a lot of people doing that the price of those items that can be considered mediocre are also going to go down, so the people below them can buy cheaper upgrades and it just becomes more and more cheaper and the only thing that's actually still expensive is the top itself so you'll have the mirror level item that's like a mirror plus a fee and then the item that's potentially only 10 or 15 percent worse will be a quarter of the price of that or maybe ev in a fifth and then the item that's ten percent worse than that is going to be a quarter or a fifth of that price so it becomes very, very cheap for people to get updates which are actually pretty significant now with the current changes to harvest with the actual removal of recombiners and all of that changes crafting changes essentially what happens is this dripping economy goes away well what used to be considered a mediocre item now is what we really consider to be good items and what used to be the items considered good will now be the new mirror level item and the actual mirror level item that we used to consider to be good items. e the amir tier will no longer exist i can almost guarantee you that apart from a few lucky people who might get crazy crazy luck most of those items will never exist again in the current state of the patch right of crafting now this means that someone who used to be able to buy a mediocre item from someone who had bought a n upgrade and who was selling it relatively cheap will now no longer be able to get access to these items, they will be stuck with the absolute basics, the kind of stuff that just falls to the ground, life resistance might be a damage stat or something, really pretty basic crap for your stuff and that's what they're going to get stuck with because their upgrades are going to be so expensive and they they forget about perfect items because those aren't going to exist now you might be ok well i never needed perfect items and i totally agree that you never needed a perfect character with mirror levels to be able to do any content in this game which is just not the case however for people like me and these, the veterans, the non-living ones, the people who play poe, you know , content creators, or people you just know who love to min maximize their character, these items give us something to look for. ward to something to fight for a reason to log in every day and play eight hours and earn x amount of money so we can spend that trying to get upgrades for a character we don't need but want right now that I talked about this and i explained why this is literally spitting in the face of consumers which is us let's talk about player attention and why this league is going to die so fast ok so what i have here are the rosters of the league now. fair these are just the numbers on steam so it doesn't include people playing indie however we can assume this is the majority of players because ggg and chris wilson said they went over the max amount of 250 000 players and we can see the maximum number of players in this league uh calandra league here was 152 000 on steam which means there were another hundred thousand players that were not on steam in the standalone client so we can assume that in It's actually a majority of players that play on Steam plus they're not half right probably 60, 70 percent of people actually release players um so now that we look at this number here what we're going let's see it's uh the actual player retention per league so we can see the highest number was arc nemesis on steam and the reason for that is because it was the december league which is now the january league essentially is the league of expansion, it's not just a league, it's an expansion, it brought the new atlas, it brought the new and new supernatural bosses, it left it brought a bunch of new stuff right?
The new implied mystery blah blah blah we could see it started at the high point between Calendar Sentinel Arc Nemesis and Expedition which are the leagues I'm focusing on here um and uh despite the fact that it started with highest number ever huh actually around huh let's look at about a month in the league actually had fewer players than any of the other leagues here had fewer players than huh sentinel had fewer players or had about the same amount of players per expedition despite the fact that I'm sorry despite the fact that it started with a significantly higher number of players, why was retention so bad in a league that would have been which would be which? it was supposed to be pretty good right it was an experience expansion league ok now the reason player retention was so bad in arc nemesis was because of arc nemesis the league was basically non existent right no it was particularly rewarding league mechanics and there was very little in terms of quality of life quality in terms of being able to properly build your own monster so most people just ignored the league mechanics and while the new atlas was on and while there were new supernatural bosses there was nothing really to look forward to as we had lost crafting the correct crop at that point and realistically speaking there was little to fight for because and even the new elder bosses were considered very very easy ok now that we look at the arch nemesis which is the highest peak so far had one of the lowest holds a month into the league we can move on Before and look at the next league that is widely considered long before this league to be the worst league of all time, which is expedition now, why was expedition the worst league of all time?
Well, first of all, they basically gave a global nerf of about 30 to every skill gem in the game which was, you know, a pretty big nerf, then they nerfed movement skills, so it seemed like you had very slow characters, you felt like you were walking through molasses, you felt like you couldn't actually dodge these different mechanics because you had such a small amount of charges on your actual movement abilities it made the game feel slow and that's what people don't like players players like poe players have been almost trained to play the game in an efficient way and f In the same way and that's not something we came up with that's the way ggg basically trained us to play and trained us to enjoying the game giving us this mechanic that was constantly basically timing the mechanic which meant we had to be faster. character strongest character to be rewarded correctly and it all basically started with legion legion correct was pretty much the first mechanic that was timed you would click the thing and have a certain amount of time to clear everything else you would lose in the loot plague was pretty much the same situation where you had to get enough damage with enough speed on your character and allow yourself to be able to take out the plague otherwise you wouldn't be rewarded properly then there was a delusion the mist moved if you didn't.
If you don't move fast enough, you couldn't get your rewards, so they've been training us to be fast and efficient players and they've been training us to enjoy the game in that sense. or when they nerfed all movement skills by such a large amount, I think it was like half the charges in our flame scripts and all of that was a big deal, not only was it also the switch to flasks that made it the game was complete unplayable you felt like you never had any never had any flash load even on the maps you knowrelatively juicy, and he felt bad, which is well explained by the fact that, as you can see, he had the worst player numbers of all time now that he started with a pretty big disadvantage, as you can see now, this expedition of the league was like a year ago so the game was smaller back then so it started off at a significant disadvantage but looking at the actual player retention it was horrible it was really really bad um ok now let's go ahead and take a look at Sentinel League now Sentinel League actually because it came from arc nemesis that a lot of people didn't enjoy and had pretty bad player retention in terms of percentages Sentinel wa Basically started off at a bit of a disadvantage.
It started with only 131,000 players even though Arc Nemesis started with 159,000 players so there are a lot fewer players actually starting the league but the funny thing is if you look uh if you look around 20 or 30 days in the league actually has the best player retention numbers including a league that started with 20 huh let's look at 27 almost 28 000 additional players still had more player retention than any league now why the retention sentinel was that good? Well, long story short, there's a new ending and aspirin wannabe content like super bosses, a reason to boost your character in terms of investment that gave you a reason to farm currency so you can hit those levels of investment and the second reason was because of the recombiners the recombiners gave a reason for people to play because they had if they had even though it was a bit of a gamble there was a science to it. and you could basically figure out the
path to get a specific upgrade on your character, provided you've played the game long enough and earned enough money.
It could actually get to the point where you would have essentially any item you could imagine, and as we can see from player retention, that's exactly what players want, right? Players want to have a way to craft the items. who want want to have something to look forward to want to have content wannabes even though it started with a significant player disadvantage has the best player retention numbers and it's not because of the sentinel league itself the center in the league was fun but no it was a game changer yeah it brought a few different playstyles and was available to everyone whether it was people rushing the boss then using apex wards to buff their bosses so that the bosses on the maps were more rewarding either people mining maps and then using their red ward to squeeze even more or people farming glaciers with the blue ward and basically getting the entirety of th The map blew up his ward, blew everything away and just went there was something for everyone for every style of play and everyone was rewarded and the actual dribbling mechanic was the highest it has ever been because people like me who you They aimed to create these absolutes. mirror level items every time we created something that was slightly less than scope level we sold it at an absolute bargain because all we wanted to do was keep trying to get the absolute best which means this economy kept crashing , of course. the point where more casual gamers, people who don't progress as fast, were able to get upgrades at very reasonable prices, something that is completely out of the game loop right now, so to speak, and that's not just that it's also it's the trickle of things like beetles and consumables, people who are making, say, 100 beetle maps of delhi, lastly, they were coming. ut of maps with significant bounties that made these maps worth making so they could sell these beetles and whatnot since you know decent actual prices and relatively affordable prices for most players so even if you weren't a complete non-life you were able to add some rusty or buffed carvings on your maps and it didn't feel like you were going out of your way in terms of investment and going broke right now due to the nerf it's not even worth it profitably speaking it's not even cost effective to use gigajuice on your maps for that to be a thing so you have to put a minimum of juice to make a profit which means these consumables are now more expensive don't believe me look at the price of expedition beetles. at the same time lastly they had about 2c and now they're like 6c for the exact same beetle still better than the 12c on the map device I don't know who came up with it but it's a great idea ggg 12c for a expedition that can be traded for a simple rusty beetle with no other perk anyway so now let's look at player retention from two of the worst leagues ever so we have the calendar league which is this league and we have the expedition, which is considered the worst league of all. time now looking at it five days into the league which is basically now that we've almost lost half of the players this is almost ten percent of the players leaving the game every day since the start of the league and I I don't see this getting any better, in fact it could actually get worse because ggg is still doubling and tripling what they consider to be his vision right now once this number hits around 20 to 30 percent which I actually expect to be relatively soon if nothing actually changes people because people are absolutely sick of arc nemesis rares just absolutely destroying their characters or getting wiped out and of course they can't see any kind of improvement. the
path to his character that makes any sense.
I expect this number to keep going down and down and down which will lead to the league dying and what happens to a league when it starts to die it dies fast because the less amount of people playing the less you can sell the items you're actually making or that you're earning or that you're brewing or whatever and the more inflation kicks in and prices basically start to drop like um like crazy so there's no reason to really play and people feel like they're basically wasting their time, for which you quit, which means more people are in the same kind of situation and feel the same, so they quit and then the absolute juicers. who would normally play the league for the entirety of the league and just constantly go for the min max they don't see an upgrade
path for their character because they know harvest has been removed divines are the new currency and define rares bei ng gone from harvesting means they'd have to spend hundreds of guesses just to define an item to be considered perfect, you know, it's not something that's really doable and most juicers are already going troves so I don't think so this league will do very well personally i think the best case scenario is that all the people who bought a ticket to the
exile scam go ahead and refund it all the people who bought a support package this league go ahead and refund it and maybe then ggg will get a call from their investors and they'll realize they're killing their own game. for eight hours a day just to get that hyrun which essentially gives you that rune word but the thing is an item in poe that equivalent is maybe a mirror but that thing isn't going to do anything because there's nothing to reflect and Of course you're not going to drop a mirror in eight hours anyway so I don't understand what these changes are about not if it makes sense and the fact that they are doubling and tripling is just insulting and personally as someone which is a content creator, basically like the people that make this game really come alive, if it wasn't for the content creators this game wouldn't be anywhere near where it is today in terms of growth. its infancy stage because the content creatures are what make the game available and enjoyable to the vast majority of gamers without us this game dies this game would never have existed in the first place it would have just been a vision in chris wilson's head for his whole life is fine, so if enough of us decide to call it quits and boycott the product, hopefully that, coupled with a significant drop in actual revenue, will lead to some changes and give players what they want now, what the hell? ayers wants we're not asking that much we're asking ggg to actually make the game fun because ggg has been training us to enjoy the game a certain way and now they're basically just taking the game and turning it on its head and hoping we enjoy of this remake of the game which is not at all what we fell in love with anyway hopefully this didn't sound too negative and pessimistic I know, you know this is typically the type of content that I stay away from but the The reality is that I love this game and the reason I'm upset about this is because I'm passionate about it and I want it to succeed not just because it's my job, but because I really love it. i play well anyway before i go as always i want to say a huge thank you to my supporters all three alex skatey apron bearded gustavo tim double same death suit miss draw leupold mercury nate patrick raskol burke rocky solomon the grandmaster thomas dominates too as master nailed it van bitizen nicktarian neuexis thank you so much you guys are essentially the people that make it possible for me to keep creating this content despite gdg you know they make these incredibly horrible decisions we can only hope they back off on some of this stuff and then keep and stop trying to spit in their faces and manipulating us by calling these massive real profits when we're in the grand scheme of things looking at about a three percent increase from what we currently have it's really ridiculous anyway I will catch them in the next peace
