I speak to you today with feelings of deep sorrow throughout her life Her Majesty the Queen my beloved mother was an inspiration an example to me and my entire family and we owe her the deepest debt any family can owe to her mother for her love. affection guidance understanding and example Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived a promise with Destiny was fulfilled and she grieves most deeply at her passing that promise of lifelong service I renew to all of you today along with the personal grief my entire family feels that We also share with many of you in the UK in all countries where the Queen was Head of State in the Commonwealth and around the world a deep sense of gratitude for the more than 70 years that my mother as Queen served the people of So Many Nations in 1947, on his 21st birthday, pledged in a broadcast from Cape Town to the Commonwealth to dedicate his life, whether short or long term, to the service of his peoples, which was more than a promise . it was a deep personal commitment that defined her entire life she made sacrifices out of duty her dedication and devotion was
sovereign she never wavered in times of change and progress in times of joy and celebration and in times of sadness and loss in her life of service we saw that The enduring love of tradition coupled with that fearless embrace of progress that
makes us great as nations, the affection, admiration and respect it inspired became the hallmarks of his reign, and as all members of my family can attest , he combined these qualities with warm humor and unerring skill.
Always to see the best in people. I pay tribute to the memory of my mother and honor her life of service. I know that her death brings great sadness to many of you and I share that sense of loss without measure with all of you when the queen arrived. to the throne, Britain and the world were still dealing with the hardships and aftermath of World War II and still living by the conventions of the early years. r times over the past 70 years we have seen our society become one of many cultures and many religions the institutions of the state have changed in turn but through all the changes and challenges our nation and the broader family of
kingdoms whose talents traditions and achievements of which I am so inexpressibly proud have prospered and flourished our values have remained and must remain constant the role and duties of the monarchy also remain as do
sovereigns the particular relationship and responsibility towards the Church of England the church in which my own faith is so deeply rooted in that faith and the values it inspires.
I have been brought up to harbor a sense of duty towards others and to have the utmost respect for the precious traditions, freedoms and responsibilities of our unique history and our parliamentary system of government as the queen herself. I did so with such unwavering devotion that I now also solemnly pledge for the remaining time God grants me to uphold the contrary constitutional principles at the heart of our nation and wherever I live in the UK or in
Kingdoms and territories around the world. and whatever your background or beliefs, I will strive to serve you with loyalty, respect and love as I have throughout my life, of course, it will change as I take on my new responsibilities, it will no longer be possible for me to dedicate as much of my time and energy to charities and issues that matter so much to me, but I know this important work will be gone. in the trusted hands of others, this is also a time of change for my family.
I have the loving assistance of my dear wife Camilla in recognition of her loyal public service since our marriage 17 years ago. She becomes my queen consort. will bring to the demands of his new office the steadfast Devotion to Duty that I have come to trust so much as my Heir William now assumes the Scottish titles that have meant so much to me succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and assumes the responsibilities of Dutch Cornwall which I have held for more than five decades. Today I am proud to name him the Prince of Wales, the country whose title I have had the great privilege to bear for much of my life and in Catherine's duty alongside him, our newest Prince and Princess of Wales, I know they will continue to inspire and lead our national conversations. helping to bring the marginal to the center of the terrain where vital help can be provided.
I also want to express my love for Harry and Megan as they continue. to build their lives abroad in just over a week, we will come together as a nation, as a commonwealth, and indeed as a global community, so that my beloved mother may rest in our sorrow, remember, and draw strength from the light of your example in On behalf of my entire family, I can only offer the deepest and heartfelt thanks for your condolences and support, which means to me what I could never express and to my dearest mom as she begins her last great journey. to join my dear late dad I just want to say this thank you thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of Nations that you have served so diligently all these years May the flights of angels sing your rest
