Minecraft - HermitCraft S9#4: Building Bane
alien deforestation ancient debris mining and triple cave spider spawn what do these three things have in common? i wanted to share with you guys or at least i did at the time i recorded them for you guys to see what usually happens is i start editing and start wondering how the hell i'm going to combine them into a cohesive narrative to explain what's going on what i have been through
hermitcraft and many times these clips just get removed because what am i going to do with the sea pickles? what i did with the villagers i moved them from the village to a new area and those two clips really have nothing to do with each other but if i can somehow give them a good narrative to go along with these things these boring clips can become quite entertaining, they can be a really nice part of the episode so yeah I'm a big fan of using bonus material in my videos it can not only be entertaining if presented in the right way but it's also great for pacing it adds a unique flavor to video and you can use it for transitions to give them a lot of information quickly and it can also enrich experiences like you can see the lays behind me and think to yourself oh that's nice ethos has a slacker now but with video from the beauty of b-roll i can take you back to the experience of when i first found the lathes my ride down the ice river which was almost like a natural boat race track that it was great fun and then i found a fortress and of course i went and tamed the lays and then i brought them back home and on the way home i found a donkey to bring back with me and i rode the donkey with the lace. all b-roll we're going into episode n oh uh huh yeah so we're starting to make some progress here around our base huh
building farms gathering resources that kind of thing but right now, things are very fragmented and it's not going to make much sense, it isn't. like a big picture that I'm working on right now and I'm just trying to get things done uh we built the car in caps oh my gosh this guy is like a five year old in a candy store I say you're very excited but yeah this Ender Chest storage system is like our main storage room that we're going to use more and then the Shocker search engine is our overflow so everything that doesn't fit in here goes in there and then when we need to reload them we take it out of there and put it in here that's the idea so the way I like to do my storage in this game is to put like a stack of everything in my Ender Chest and then automatically reload it using this system is the target and we're starting to make some progress getting these filled in like i'm taking care of the orange sand and sandstone stuff and some stuff most of these are empty right now it's like a big job and a half to fill this out but little by little we'll do it so another thing what we're doing here is we drag some villagers from the nearby village about 400 blocks away and they're just hanging out here.
The problem is that every time I do this, an iron golem seems to appear and just wreak havoc and death. me and stuff have to get this guy to infect our villagers so we can heal them lower their trade prices that kind of thing is gonna hide in here maybe and we just have to wait here a bit and see uh to see the show happen i guess which is ok it's probably as good as it will be so let's do it oh yeah this was a mistake big mistake i have no blocks? I don't have blocks. it's going to be our third wave and generally you want to do at least three waves when you do this um four or five is better although unfortunately i ran out of gold there are all my golden apples so we're going to have to stop there for now i think de This way what we're going to do is we're going to try to put them in boats so they don't attack each other after they're healed oh oh oh no that's right this will make things a bit more complicated it wasn't supposed to happen uh ok we got our boats back there's a surprise on the ground ok i planned this everything is ok no ok i think they have food right?
Oh, they're turning again, don't do that. look at me look at me not in the villagers look at me i'm the one you want oh don't hurt me ok can we go to the walls? No, we can not. I'm in trouble here. I am in trouble. we're a little low on gear right now but that's ok we'll get it back in just a second here uh some people think I'm a big planner like I have a 40 chest uh my thing goi ng on no , not really, I usually like to just jump into situations and see what happens you know let's do this instead so I started spider farm believe it or not even though I didn't actually farm spiders now I need for potions of weakness, how do I get this to work?
There's a torch up there it's not there so right now I don't have a sword I don't have a helmet so I'm a little weak so this could go from one bad situation to another you know what I don't have I don't have arrows now no arrows and no no weapons okay huh i got backup here look at that a bunch of backup gear okay cool all right here we go we go we go in oh we got spider eyes okay okay what are we at five okay that's probably enough now foreign get our tools back ok well that went pretty well we got our gear back we lowered their trade prices and now they are ready for a trade area whenever we want to set that up but that wasn't really my plan for today i just wanted to reduce their trade the prices so I can start negotiating with them huh our main goal for today is actually going to be
building a mini game so if you haven't seen scar is planning to host a charity event and n He needs everyone to build a mini game for him.
Well, not everyone, but whoever can and wanted to spend some time doing that today, to be honest with you, although I'm not really ready for that kind of thing. I don't have a lot of stuff to do anything crazy crazy cool or complicated true but I got the idea that we're actually going to build something pretty big but I'm going to use really cheap blocks like stone wood and that kind of stuff, what we're going to do is first pick up like a shelter or two of wood i gotta get some spruce and some dark oak and we're trying out the tree farm for the first time here so let's see if it blows up, that's always fun ok ok i think we ok great ok so check this out we got some leaves and we got some stumps firm up ge Started our mini game here we probably need a few more and do a lot round trips from here at our base because I never know what I need huh but yeah we've flown to the mini game area which is actually it's very much in development right now there's just one mini game here, boys.
Azuma made a scaffolding game where you have to pick up the scaffolding, so we're pretty much the first to pick the land. I'm sure this area will fill up very soon. we want to build it near his mini game but we need to find a place like big flats uh for him and i dont want to do it in birch forest because yeah look at that ugly grass color right? Maybe we'll do it here. is what he was thinking and then we have the mountains around us. This is a cool place, right? I like it, but we'll have to cut down all the trees and flatten this out a bit, but I think we've got enough. space here.
I'm hoping to get started and maybe do some measurements. In fact, I got the full build. You've finished it guys believe it or not you've actually seen it before like 10 years ago you saw it this has been in the works for a long time guys a long time alright. A little change of plans here. I measured that area. and it was a little too small for what we needed huh so I searched a little more and actually this place here will do it barely fits here and the nice thing here is by the portal and it's very flat so I won't have to terraforming as much, which is a nice bonus, less work. my beacon and all that kind of stuff right away because it's going to save time in the long run which I have before I even cut down the trees let's raise the beacon because it'll make it a little faster too all right there we go we're in a hurry it doesn't make much difference but it helps a bit a bit believe me for several hundred logs you have to cut it makes a difference well we got the area very well cleared here all the trees are packed in this double chest and this actually works really well because we need birch and oak for this project as well and now we have it uh-huh so the next step is to start flattening things out.
I think this will be our base level here and basically anything above this level will be cut down to this level. It's going to be a bit of a weird build for me because I'm copying it from another world like I have to look at the other world and then copy it here and that requires a lot of checking to make sure it doesn't make a mistake um so I think for this project i'll do mostly off camera and then i'll bring them in at the end and we'll do the adaptation and gamification of the project afterwards huh if you're wondering what the dark oak is about though i did put them as anc or dots i don't know if ever you've tried to copy something before and then you get to the end and it's like oh this is off by a block.
I hope these anchor points were carefully measured. I hope this ensures that you can quickly spot if something is wrong if we have a bunch of these so yeah we'll see how it goes. to take some shape here starting to progress some of you may know what this is now that's how it is we are
bane arena battle we are going to try to make it a mini game here in
hermitcraft and hey it goes well how I am having so much fun doing this, but boy did I underestimate the amount of time this would take?
We're about eight hours into it and I thought we'd be done at this point or maybe a quarter or a third, yeah, so there's a good chance that we won't be completely done with this today, but we'll see what happens here. I'm going to keep
building for a while and hopefully make a lot more progress. Well, well, it looks like we did it all here, everyone, oh, it's such an easy project, um, so it took several days of non-stop construction. I roughly estimated how long it would take to finish this project. I decided to just go ahead and finish it and this episode will be delayed for a bit even though as a result it was a sunk cost fallacy situation where you know I probably should have come I have a different idea but I just wanted to do it because I had already invested so much in it that i kept
building and now we have a battle bait in
hermitcraft so this is very cool i'm actually very happy i did it all now because this not only fills the need for hey scar needs a mini game for his charity event but now we just have a general PVP arena in
hermitcraft which I think is a really good thing to make the server more fun like take for example lets say i wanted to hang out with tango in
hermitcraft here i would probably have to go to him with an idea of something fun to do right and there's a bit of a burden in that a bit of the challenge of always thinking of something to do when you want to hang out with someone on the server but now that we have minigames starting to appear like i want to do something with another hermit you don't necessarily need an idea to do it you can go hey let's PVP in Battle Bay in Arena or something like that or play the Cubs huh total chaos game you know that kind of thing is really important I think to keep the server fun and enjoyable to play so now we also have another minigame to play and like You know, there's a bit of history with this map.
I spent a lot of time designing it and never finished the game. I'm not saying I'm giving it up or anything like that. No, no, it could be. until one day I finish it, you never know, but I spent a lot of time designing it and, uh, I was really focused on making sight lines work well on this map and stuff, so I want to see it played and almost as tested. to see if some of my predictions for how it would play would come true and also come true for me now the other thing about all this even though this project isn't finished yet no no we still have some more to do on this and this is the part where i want you guys to be with me because i think it will be interesting to see how we adapt this to
hermitcraft because if you remember the original
bane battle he used command blocks to make the game modes right we don't have that in hermit for so we're going to have to come up with a new almost game design for this arena, we just copied the arena, but we need to make our own game out of it, right?
So I'm thinking let's do a standard PvP battle. It's nice and simple. make it easy to understand, easy for people to learn, we could add some capture system to it. I have an idea for that, we'll get to that in a second, but the other thing is, since the original used command blocks, it also used commands. blocks for other things like uh i was airborne and like if you fell off this bridge the command block would check if you're outfrom the limits of the arena and then i would just kill you in
hermitcraft here we actually need to dig a hole under this bridge at least 23 blocks deep so that uh when someone falls they don't get stuck but actually have to die when you hit the ground properly, so that needs to be done in some places and especially we'll need something to dictate what's off-limits to the Arena like, for example, right now, the way it's set up.
I can go like from the castle, jump here and now I'm out of the intended Arena and I could walk here and jump. back somewhere else maybe we really don't want people doing that right so i started digging here but we want to dig like a five block gap probably like go a little more than this so you can't jump hopefully around everything in here like 23 blocks deep like well if someone gets knocked out of the arena they'll die when they hit the ground uh huh yeah but it'll be a bit long and boring project so i'll try to do it in between this episode and the next. off camera episode this episode we are going to focus mainly on gameplay so its going to be standard PVP everyone loves standard PVP its a staple in
minecraft its easy to understand has a high ability to replay that's fine but let's face it standard PVP is kind of boring it's also a big problem if people are grouped together like in a team game and they don't really move around the map we want to give them some kind of reason to move around the map here as well so that's where this capture point system is going to come from it's going to be like an added thing people can just play standard PVP or they can play the fancier game mode if they choose to interact with it like so i'm thinking each team has their own castle let's put the capture point like right here this is a good place i think because there are a lot of things connected to this so you can go up the ladder here and cross the bridge here you can shoot someone down here from the other side of the volcano. it's like a real high intersect area and it's also like in the castle for each team so let me put something together here and i'll try to explain how i want this to work well i think we have something here watch this activate absorb our bet there and then it starts counting down and then after a little bit of time it will start counting down again and pick up whatever we put here next so this is not a standard uh capture point system we are basing this a little bit f from the rip zone game i made in
hermitcraft season 7 uh we are going to play for points so as you know when you die in hermit in
hermitcraft here you will drop a player head if someone kills you we will use those as points each player's head will be worth three points and if you bring it back to your capture area here uh and it goes into the system that's how you get points if someone kills you before you can bring it back , although then ces can steal those points. from you possibly so we're trying to make a really simple system here though that has complex gameplay implications so you would bring your player heads here put them into the system and then once you do the countdown I'll take it and then it'll be fine yeah so I'm very excited about this actually this is a very simple idea but I think it's going to have a lot of variance in gameplay as a result of this because it almost has risk versus reward. in it you have to decide as a player how do you manage your capture point like you can leave your points here and then run away and try to collect some more and not waste time like that but then there is a risk someone will come and steal you your points? you can decide it's ok it's a team game maybe we look for one guy to always protect the chapter point but then the other teams might see oh there's only one guy there maybe we try to kill him and steal his points quickly too. and then we'll get his player head for bonus points uh-huh so yeah I like him a lot plus it rewards uh being observant so you might see someone drop some points on his capture point and then leave real quick and uh if you figure out you can go and just grab the free points if you're paying attention most of the time though I think people will leave points and then leave and no one will see that there are points there and just they'll get into the system because you'll be distracted by gunshots and all that kind of stuff, right?
You're playing a PVP game while managing your capture system here, um, but I feel like this system alone isn't enough to make the game interesting. I need to have another way to make people move around the map. I feel like that's where this other idea comes in. I experimented with a dot dispenser. map here and whenever you find an item waiting on the pedestal you can pick it up and that's worth a point if you can get it back to your capture system but again people can kill it and steal it from you but after you pick it up here there are no points for a time for no one else until it's updated and managed by a hopper clock we can basically add or subtract time here um if we think it should slow down or speed up um but it's updated five minutes from now so this item doesn't reappear and it's always going to having an item available if it hasn't been picked up recently and basically just shoots an item from The Dropper to the top here and then shoots it back here so we can power it up. leave this running all the time even when the game doesn't work and then i don't have to deal with it like turning it on and off you know and this is a really simple thing to add to the game without needing a bunch of redstone controlling it so i like that same with the capture points here very simple it's basically just a hopper clock we can leave running even when the game isn't going possibly huh the hopper clock connects to the lights here depending on how many ender pearls are in the clock of the chute affects how many lights come on and then every time it activates it also sends a signal down here to a locking mechanism for the chute oh the chute is there so at the end of the game we need to see all the dots and n add them up for each team somehow so maybe we send those points somewhere in Grand Central still thinking about things how we're going to do that uh the other thing is we might need a timer or for this game because otherwise you just play always good we need a like some way to end the game okay it's going to be strong okay let's go so let's pretend uh time's up and the bell starts ringing, how far can we hear that?
Oh, I think that's the limit, right? around here it's ok so it doesn't reach the whole arena which means we'll need at least four bells uh hidden underground maybe to indicate yes so i think using bells and Q audio is the way to go tell everyone that the round is over. because visually the map is quite big and there is also a lot of stuff in your face always so it would be hard to have a visually clean screen somewhere maybe Beacon beams could be used but I like the idea of using the bells it looks like they're going to w works pretty well so the rounds will probably last about five to ten minutes and then when the bells are done ringing everyone will stop playing and we'll also probably want to freeze the scoring system so things like last minute ones. in that um the last thing we have to consider with our game here is how we started it ie where we put people so in the battle
Bane I think the spawn place was here you would be teleported to the arena with a command block. obviously we can't do that with this game we need something else so i think we'd like to build a spawn room like drill this out and build a 10 by 10 room over here maybe we want to put beds is there a place for them people set their spawn and respawn somewhere to drop off their gear before the game starts like a lot of chess for that and we'll probably want some dispensers that will automatically equip people with the gear we're not going to be using shields in this game I don't think because I don't like shields, um, and it'll probably just be like iron armor and basic basic weapons without enchanting, though we'll want to italicize banishing on everything so that when people die, their inventory doesn't get cluttered. rip zone lesson huh people inventory filled up and then they couldn't pick up player heads and that became a big problem but eh yeah i think that's as far as we're going to go on this project today because uh it's about that time in the episode and to be honest I need a break.
I've been, uh, I've been working on this for too long. i hope to create a game where we can play with some of the other hermits and do a little test have fun with it if you have any ideas for the project please let me know in the comments. I would like to see his thoughts on and uh yes that will be all for today so until next time take care have a good day bye
