Namibia: A Side Of Africa The Media Won’t Show You
Namibia, one of the most beautiful countries in
Africa and in this video I will explore it.
Namibia has always been on my travel list for a long time, but I have never had the chance to visit until now. It's a part of
Africa to me that seems so far away that many
Africans haven't really bothered to explore that's something people need to know about
Namibia, especially the very, very beautiful country, number two country, the peaceful, peaceful country. and sure in the next 10 days. I am going to travel through
Namibia hoping to end up in the desert.
A little known secret is that
Namibia is home to the oldest desert in the world which I have always wanted to visit since I was 10 days old. I came up with a plan to spend three days each in different interesting parts of the country and eventually end up in the oldest desert in the world I had very limited resources so I wanted to make sure this trip was as cheap as possible so I set a budget thousand dollars that I was I will make sure not to go too far I started my trip from Cape Town, which is less than two hours from
If you're traveling by air, I would have loved to go on a road trip, but with a Nigerian passport, I don't think so. I landed in the capital city of Windhoek and my reaction was: where is everyone? It's only 2.5 million people in all of
Namibia, that's like a small part of Lagos.
Namibia is one of the least populated countries in the world despite the fact that the land area is over. 824,000 km Square which is almost the size of Nigeria with over 900,000 km Square which is really small if you ask me foreigner the city I could see a striking resemblance to some parts of South
Africa was a German colony from 1884 to 1919 then we Colonized by appetite South
Africa until 1990.
He might advise you to know that
Namibia was formerly called South West
Africa. We arrive at the capital city of Vindu, which derives its name from the
African world, wind hook, meaning wind. corner was not very windy today, although my first place to stay was the mindful camp I had booked online for thirty bucks called Urban Camp. I knew I was going to spend some time here so I wanted to start this journey on a budget so I don't run out of money and have to go back to my country one of the things I noticed when I got here was that there were a lot of Toyota 4x4 trucks with tents in them, the trucks had almost everything you would need for an adventure or road trip, it had a cooler in the back for drinks, pumps for your tires, cooking equipment, if you decide to go camping and much more Most of the people who come to
Namibia come for tourism as it is the biggest source of income in the country.
Seeing these vehicles made me realize. I was missing something really important for this trip, which was a way to move. Also looking at the map I realized that most of the places I was planning to visit were hundreds of kilometers from the city and driving all that distance alone was going to be very boring, so I contacted my friend Richard who lived in Cape Town and who was also a tour creator, to accompany me on this trip and arrived the next day. I'm too tired if we're going to drive all the way. to the oldest desert in the world we will need to get a vehicle that can take us if we could get a vehicle then we could explore the most amazing places in
Namibia and finally visit the oldest desert in the world which has always been on my bucket list and I hope you can see later in this video if and only if we succeed I posted on IG last night that I was in
Namibia hoping the tour company would contact us to collaborate next morning we got the biggest surprise of all We were approached by one of the largest travel companies in
Namibia called Gondwana Collections who were willing to help us plan our trip and also give us a new vehicle to get around.
We couldn't believe our luck. God was on our
side this is our vehicle this is my box in the back so 4x4 has a tent on top it's like a new vehicle actually I'm excited to see what the country, so once you join me, we go to one of the best parts. visiting a new country is trying the food so i reached out to a new friend i just met online her name was woven Tails family welcome to ventook
Namibia and she is one of the biggest youtubers if not the biggest youtuber large of
Namibia, so where are we? going to now let's katutura she told me about the local place in the window called sia's kitchen where we could try some of the best
Namibian deli and we are people people so when we eat we eat in a group rather than not each to their own so first things first we need to wash your sleeves oh this is on reflex you got it from the same place as me because i will eat all the food and then you will be very hungry. let's eat more food come on so this is uh two one nigeria what's going on hospitable person from start to finish?
Yeah, and I can't beat someone visiting us. I can, I just let you win. and also one of the few
African countries that exports beef internationally.
Namibia exported over $52 million worth of meat during 2020. That's a really huge amount guys, it was an amazing experience. One of the things I noticed about
Namibia is that they have so many Tourist Destinations spread all over the city and our plan was to stay in as many as possible, they always give their best, you know, in case you know something happens, you have to make sure that they have enough, it's not a country you want to get stuck in. because it is hot and there is nothing for long distances definitely the first place on our list was the kalai Ani which was about three hours from windok the trip was mostly on a pack road and head that
Namibia is the leader it is a
African country with the best quality roads on the continent and to be honest they were in the tail.
We stopped briefly on the road. You have to stretch your legs. I heard that
Namibia has some of the best food in
Africa, but now I'm saving. free i think we sat in singapore whats interesting is
Namibia practices right hand driving system just like South
Africa after driving three hours each
show them you have come up with a collection for me. apparently oh there is only one pool there yes it was like a beautiful Oasis in the middle of the desert because of its location one of the activities to partake in here was the Drive game which brought us closer to the animals on the Safari which we will be heading to . to the gym where they will see a beautiful
namibian sunset which has the most amazing wildlife of any
african country with animals such as cheetahs, zebras, lions, elephants and many more, the national animal is the oryx which can be seen on the shield of arms of the country and can be found all over the country
side after a long drive on the beautiful Safari we climbed one of the highest red sand dunes to eat and experience the amazing foreign sunset on the east
side welcome to
Namibia check the sunset is so beautiful there is nothing big yeah that's why we are drinking here and we come from here.
I know I love food, so I picked like one, two, three. I'm going to demolish all of this before we hit the road and continue our journey. He had like a million bags on him. The drive to a place called The Drive took us about five hours or more on a mostly gravel road. The good thing about Road is that you keep stopping at different towns and in different areas to buy supplies or buy fuel to refuel and currently we are. I'm in a town I don't know where this is okay, it's called Mao Tahoe. I think this is our last band before we leave the experts and head to Gravel Road.
side pressure made it soft so you could conform to the shape of the Rocks, improving traction and grip on our left and Right where numerous beautiful rock formations and also encountered many animals, we saw a large Komodo dragon. It is very big. Get up. the roads were gravel, the ride was very smooth and we drive at 80 km/h on this road, to be honest I was very doubtful if we were going to make it to the desert because we still had a long way to go. Traveling for me is always full of uncertainty especially for a new location and you can never be quite sure what to expect so successful it is a very popular place in
Namibia it has some of the biggest and most beautiful sand dunes that form different patterns when they are sunbaked from different foreign angles is a place called Dead Flay which was home to the most famous salt pan in
Namibia to access it we have to drive to the Namib knock loft Park and pay a fee the prices differ depending on which where you are cheaper for
namibians is more expensive for tourists like me the journey takes another 30 minutes along the third road before reaching the final destination which was the ultimate test of our driving skills we are trying to make sure i dont get stuck because if we get stuck we have to push the foreign car it looks pretty amazing wanted like a hike from here to the top of d e that there i'm about to run down the hill i hope i don't break my neck before i fall i want to tell you about the sponsor of today's video which is epidemic sound and that's where i get all my music from music is an important part of Storytelling and epidemic sound provides me with unrestricted free music to use on all my platforms without having to worry about it being removed or muted, it doesn't matter if you are a video creator on YouTube or creating videos for clients, epidemic sound is licensed to cover all the great thing about epidemic sound is that you can choose from a huge variety of music you can't even decide to divide music into different sections it can remove the Beats it can remove the drum epidemic sound it also allows you to browse the website and search and easily filter find the perfect track its platform is made with creators like you and me in mind, so all its features allow you to save time and easily find the perfect sound for whatever project you are working on if you find a song you like or something is missing you can also click find similar for similar songs click the link in the description for a test 30 day free come on sing that playing for the first time was one of the most serious sites ever so many trees that were dead but still standing and it was eerily silent alien formed some years ago when the river flooded this area that led to the growth of these trees however the climate changed and sand dunes invaded this area blocking the river from reaching the trees which led to them dying their dead trees but they still are its like they are still standing there and have been like that for hundreds of years so a lot of people come here to experience it and trust me.
This is one of the most impressive places I have ever seen. The best time to really experience that game was early in the morning, especially if you want to climb the dunes because it gets really hot in the afternoon, one of the best parts that I love. about exploring
Africa is that the more you explore, the more you can see places you never knew existed as this is one of them. I never knew this really existed. The night was trapped deep in a conservatory area owned by gondwana lodges which helped us plan our trip. They own over 47 lodges in
Namibia and be sure to check them out if you ever plan to visit this is a lodge called Desert Beginning Lodge this is one of the most beautiful hotels a beautiful lodge I have ever stayed in guys just check this out the sun is going down it took us four hours to get here and believe me the view is totally worth it they have nine rooms and then there is a great restaurant overlooking the Kalahari I always wonder why people have to leave
Africa and say that they go to Dubai when they can come to
Namibia everything you want to get in Dubai you can get in
Namibia you can get it cheaper and then, if you are
African, you are also in
Africa and then your money is spread across
I want to enjoy the sunset. I want to enjoy it and experience it, but before it goes all the way, let me
show you what a room here looks like. I've never seen that t Everything landed like this in my life ok you know what to expect but it's beautiful not the sunset the rest is about staying here it's this bed let me
show you what you can do it had a unique experience in which you could shoot. getting out of the cabin bed and laying under the stars at night this was the first time i saw the milky way spending the night here made me wish i had come with my baby and not have to spend the night star gazing with richard so don't make the same mistake I did with those who have women with those who have sadness or pain in their life.
You can snuggle up in the lobby at night and there are blankets you can sleep on. There is also no Wi-Fi or cell signal. here because they really want youdisconnect, so get ready for a social
media detox. The best thing I loved about this location was how remote it was, it gave you the feeling that you were really alone and the scenery and views from the room were truly extraordinary. we had dinner while watching the beautiful sunset Totally Over the Horizon I know I have used beautiful a lot in this video but it is only because everything is really beautiful here sorry foreigner we also visited another hotel in this collection which was called desertGrace and it had a Totally different environment from the first one, this one had the private outdoor pool and it was also a great place to stay if you come with your partner or family. town called swakopon guys we are officially in the desert now there are no trees or anything its all just flat empty land and we still have another 60 miles that i drive from Celsius would take us four to five hours so we have to refer several times driving a lot Las distances with a 4x4 lead to a large intake of foils.
Namibia is around N$24 per liter which was a small price to pay if you don't want to get stuck in the desert because
Namibia is so big there were times when you drove for 20-30 minutes without finding a single vehicle also your car must be on capsized ship because breaking down here isn't even something I would wish on my enemy though most of the 4x4 tent was t Worst case you sleep on the roof but I prefer the beautiful cabins so guys we hit the Tropic of Capricorn we don't actually know what it means but I don't.
I heard about it before we passed one of the most amazing places ever seen a pink lake that was home to the beautiful flying birds called flamingos the first time I saw a flamingo was in Tanzania but they were in small numbers the flamingos in
Namibia were hundreds of thousands and they were spread out more than my eyes could see because they eat algae and shrimp their body metabolizes the pigment which makes it even more pink they also sleep on one leg which is ridiculous to me why would they sleep on one leg? waiting to get there because i need to relax i drove for the last four minutes i finally got there soccer mom a sea
side city that was a stark contrast to quite a desert drive
Namibia has over 1,500 kilometers of coastline Sacramento is also the largest sea
side city and most
namibians visit here on vacation and this is my first time walking the streets it looks very similar to south
africa very similar to cape town actually and also the temperature also feels like i am in cape town Cape along the waterfront where a lot of amazing real estate used mostly for airbnbs hotels and vacation homes the
median price for a townhome here was around a hundred thousand dollars one of the highlights in town is the swakopon lighthouse and mall an old seawall we are currently at this place called the Strand Hotel what do you think of what you are seeing for p first time?
We've been stuck in the desert for a few days and this is pretty refreshing tomorrow it's going to be epic yeah it's going to be epic you gonna
show me how they do it here yeah yeah not for tonight it's definitely okay come on It's going to start very easy, but we still have an early morning, we are strong in Nigeria, don't worry, I'm fine. our place. For the night, it was a lovely hotel that was a five minute walk from the Waterfront, ok. What is this called onyama? I can't describe it. It's just wonderful. riding on the sand here you need to be skilled or are you skilled not to get stuck or you just get tall company which is what we did and we linked up with this guy and it's going to take us all the work way to wall up the foreign guys from Harbor, uh this is the part where we're going to go off road now so basically we're going to turn off the stretch control of the car because that's one of the procedures that we do the towing control has to be offered i'm going to participate in H4 which is your normal 4x4 as I always tell my clients this is the part where we say we are going to have some
African massages all the way ok it's courtesy it's free ok great let's go to the Cine videos of the desert hitting the ocean but I haven't had a chance to experience it for myself until now this is the only place in the world for hundreds and hundreds of miles where the oldest desert is. o of the world, the Namib Desert and the Atlantic Ocean, joins the oldest deserts in the world and as one of the highest dunes in the world, the Namib Desert is the oldest desert in the world and has endured for 55 to 80 million years old and stretches for over 1,900 kilometers along the Atlantic coast of
Africa to Angola and then south through
Namibia to the Western Cape province of South
Africa, you can see the dunes here and from this
Side is the ocean, guys, can you imagine the ocean and the desert meeting?
The best way to come here is with an experienced tent company that is familiar with the forest because driving here needs the highest skill level oh my gosh oh my gosh he really created this land as I think it is one of the most unique landscapes I have ever seen. i have seen god made i am
namibian and i have never been here it is cra zy come on come on yes i really like godzilla also the time of day is important because during high tide this road we are driving on will be totally submerged by the sea we drove to the highest dune in
Namibia and this was the best phone I've had in a long time until next lunch
Namibia thanks ok God made it if I posted the pic online you would be like where in the world are you but yeah , I mean
Namibia, yes visiting
Namibia has really changed my mind about what this beautiful
African country really had to offer I never expected to live feeling so blown away the country is so big that p You'll probably need two months or more to fully experience it because every part has something to offer and I'm definitely coming back.
This is one of the reasons I love to travel, it helps shape your perception of the world and sometimes goes beyond your expectations. expectations if you look at
namibian economy from the four main sectors
namibian economy will be your mining fishing good farming then tourism oh wow farming is big in
Namibia I totally enjoyed my stay in
Namibia and can say
Namibians are a one of the most hospitable people I have met in any
African country did you get there? my drone stopped working and just posting on instagram, a stranger was willing to lend me his to take most of the shots you saw in this video and now we are friends, the most important thing about traveling for me is not just the location, but the amazing people you meet along the way and i met men in
namibians thanks to gondwana lodges for sponsoring all our accommodation and logistics for this trip if you are coming to
namibia definitely check the link in the description below to contact gondwana and Tell them Ty and Richard sent you and tell them you want the same experience.
I once read somewhere that strangers are just friends you haven't met yet, so I would recommend
Namibia 100 to you, it's a cocktail of amazing activities and experiences I don't think. I see that everyone in the world should try it. I hope you have enjoyed this video. If you did, hit the like button and subscribe. See you at the next one. How are you doing?
