The Youtube issues get worse
I wanted to do another video on this topic because some things have changed in the background since last time, and in the meantime, I met with my YouTube rep to talk about some of the
issues I mentioned in my video. and to talk in general about the YouTube comments and various other things that have been going on because the whole internet seems to have been rioting against YouTube on their own platform for the last week because of all the videos that have been coming out and being back It's kind of a trend to talk about it and get the complaints out of the way, which I think is great.
I think that's how you make the change because otherwise it's just lost and no one ever talks about it like we do. I see a lot of these topics trend very quickly and then go away very quickly, so I wanted to kind of keep the pressure up, but also explain the context of some things that have happened since then because we did it. the video initially because of Corey's video and I wanted to make sure his message got heard and also bring up a few other
issues that I think YouTube has and give some kind of feedback on it um and since then Mark uploaded a video called the deal challenge of having no age restrictions which was a game he shot months ago but now it just happened to fit perfectly into the stuff that was going on so it was very uh it was perfect timing for that um and then I had an eye tracking video that i was trying to date and i tried to get a green top for a while that was proving problematic and i knew i would but i also did that video at the time and i also called it to try to have no age restriction challenge just to touch a few buttons and like kicking a hornet's nest one way and testing the systems one way um and i'll say since you uploaded the video um ok i'll give context in the video because i didn't te Last but in case you don't know I recorded the eye tracker video obviously with the intention of pushing the limits of what the system was going to allow, that wasn't the point of the video in the first place, I just wanted to see what it could do and then making is a fun video and it kind of reacts to the lewd stuff in it and makes it entertaining in that way but we had to censor it a lot because it kept coming back saying it was flagged and not suitable for advertisers and I was like you know what it's absolutely fair there's a lot of nudity in it i had to censor a lot a lot of it is still implied so there was a lot about it i knew i was even willing to bite the bullet on it and let's just say okay maybe just Let's put this video up and it's not monetizable and it's going to be a fun video that people can watch, but we keep trying anyway and then one day Trey was working on an edit of it. to try to get a few more sensors to see what I could get away with and I was like, you know what, let me appeal this one first and then when I appealed it, two days went by and I came back and it said there was manually reviewed money and it was gave it a green light so it got the green icon instead of the yellow means it was suitable for advertisers and I thought ok it looks like the system itself automatically flagged some things and turned on the yellow icon then someone manually checked it supposedly a human on YouTube and said yes there are enough sensors on this. you can get away with it and then it was given the green light and then I uploaded the video and called it to try not to have an age restricted challenge as it hasn't been age restricted but it was flagged again which is part of the problem I said and I knew by uploading it that was a potential that was going to happen and that was one of the reasons I reuploaded it anyway after that appeal and didn't try to censor it anymore because I was like, let's just see if my theory is valid someone on
youtube can give it the green light and then you can flag it back later and i brought it up to my rep yesterday because that inconsistency and saying someone reviewed it and now it says someone manually reviewed it i reviewed it again and no it was deemed viable for
youtube and i was like why is that and obviously he doesn't have all the answers either um and again i absolutely love my
youtube rep he's always fighting in our corner and trying his best for l The creators, so I don't want anyone on YouTube to be mad at him, but some of the things obviously can't be told to me because you can't give the keys to the kingdom.
I also don't know 100 how the algorithm works and what it's after and everything and it's pretty good that people don't know because then you can game the system too easily and that brings up a whole mess of problems as well and I think I mentioned in the last video that users flag videos if they can be abused very easily. I said it before the broker's digital channel was hacked and then it was reported that Mass was hacked because the audience wanted YouTube to know that he was hacked, can you? give them back to them but what ends up happening is the system is like oh it's Mass reported something is going on delete the whole channel and I was wondering how abusive that could be and another good example of this is Evelyn uploaded the morgue attendant he was flagged for the kind of self-harm themes that were in it, just like I was, but after that, I think because users were flagging videos a lot, he started getting emails from YouTube saying, Are you okay?
Do you self harm? Are you suicidal with things like that? So it's hard to know exactly what goes on behind the scenes and why these things happen, but the fact that I'm trying to boil this down to sorry is getting so rambling. My thoughts are all over the place what I'm trying to sum up to this is I don't like that I can upload something it gets flagged yellow that was totally fine that was just I understood then someone on YouTube cleared it after I appealed it and i'm like oh someone manually checked it cool that means it's safe now and then i upload it and then it gets flagged again so people reported the video and then it got attention and then
youtube came in and i manually checked it again and someone with stricter protocols came in and said that's actually not necessary which means two people in that department if they were two separate people didn't talk to each other or if it was the same person again and called flack for the users . and then they said oh shit I need to dial this back it just doesn't make sense to me that there's this whole mess of hierarchy and communication and everything that happens in that chain of command that just doesn't make any sense and it seems like that It's the problem with YouTube in general, it's that the policy team doesn't talk to the marketing team, they don't talk to reps like there's so many different departments going on because it's a huge machine of an industry that they're doing and I get that too , but there needs to be more communication on their end so we can have better communication if at the source they're not talking to each other how the hell are we supposed to know what? what the hell is going on another example of this um and mark so sorry i keep bringing you guys into this but something else happened with him recently they had the game in case we were all part of um and i liked a minecraft section mark did the his as some analog horror thing that he wanted to put on and it was like a live stream where people could vote on decisions and it was kind of pre-recorded, but effectively you could pick the options of where it was going to go. and we recorded like a bunch of di different versions of it to make it a more interactive live stream and it was, it was in, um, it could use some work it wasn't perfect but for what it was it was pretty fun but it They marketed like I got Mark, huh. when he was in Los Angeles, he was talking to America about the idea of him and what he was doing, and he was working on it while I was there, um, and it sounded really cool and then the thing came out.
Mark tweeted that he was watching a game because I m on a
youtube reacted to that and said yeah y'all go watch the stream and links to it and then his section came up there was a minute long section of him doing a in between and then the rest got cut he had everything planned for it all to be cut from the stream and he didn't know until the stream was over and then he tweeted that it was as expected they cut my section um and I mean I don't know the exact details of why did it get cut a lot of people think it got cut because it did the age restricted challenge ge video that day and then that night they cut the content that's not true they didn't cut it that's why um i've worked with
youtube for a long time they don't work that fast um and I asked Mark about it and he said they cut it for time or something like that I don't know that's up to him to argue all I know is that it wasn't cut for the sake of him saying something against them I mean the I criticize in a video before s about that too and i made an age restricted challenge video they should have cut out my section so i also know i was on it with a bunch of other people but that theory just doesnt make any sense and all that he did was riling people up and making them even angrier at YouTube for saying they were censoring it and I feel like that kind of mentality is taking us away from the main
issues that Corey or I or Charlie or anyone else was raising during this and I I i want to give real feedback and criticism and possible solutions to things instead of just getting mad and yelling at people and being like
youtube doesn't suck because i mean they don't want their creators to fail amazingly despite what people might think , they actually want the platform to succeed and for us to make a living. in it and for our videos to work well it's just a great system that people don't talk to each other and that's why I bring it up because I feel like the people who responded to America on Twitter um didn't know their section was captured as well as Mark didn't and I feel like the people who are marketing the whole event and using it in the Articles and using it as the video, the trailer that they put up and like to use their face everywhere.
I don't think they knew they cut it either, um, it's still in a very small section, um, but their main section was completely cut, um, and I think that comes down to a lot of departments not talking to each other either. um, which sucks because what do we assume? d to do if
youtube doesn't know what it's doing either um and that's why I'm trying to talk about it to just light it up to be like hey you guys need to be better so we can do what we do and not leave ourselves to a system that is so inconsistent, so unknowable, and so out of our control that it simply makes us unwilling to upload content or terrified of the kinds of things we can upload.
Because it's all so vague, I don't have all the answers either. To some people this will just sound like a complaint, but I really just want to see a platform change happen where everyone is treated fairly while some people like Americanized videos. I'm age restricted, but Ethan uploaded a 10th anniversary video of him and it was age restricted. um. I don't know exactly what was in that one. um and me I guess there probably isn't much in it that needs to have age restrictions. ed um so it seems like some people are treated differently than others which of course shouldn't be something where we should all be treated fairly across the platform because otherwise how do you go?
I've done things with YouTube. back in the day i'm a big
youtuber if i get treated more fairly than other people it makes everyone look bad it just makes the system seem completely unfair and i don't want that either i feel like some solutions to this could be uh originally when we had the copyright system and they were claiming us for a song or something within a clip or whatever you normally used to say this video was claimed for blah blah and that was it it was just a general thing all over the people from video complained a lot about it.
People gave feedback to YouTube. Now most of the time when you get a copyright claim it has to tell you the specific section that's being claimed and that's great because now as a YouTuber I can go into the YouTube editor which is like after uploading the video, there is an editor on
youtube that i can go to and cut out a section of the video it takes a couple hours to process and then all of a sudden the copyright claim is removed that clip is gone the video could be a little bit weird because it's not in the original edit and it's not extensive editing tools but now at least we have the ability to cut that section our video is fine it comes out to everyone perfectly monetizable again and there are other sections of
youtube now with as I thought I saw at one point that I got balanced ads on something, so I wasn't completely restricted.
They claimed me for something and added balanced or something. I don't remember the terminology and that means I still have. earn a part of the video while the other person got or someone else got a part or it wasn't fully demonetized that's also a step in the directioncorrect where everything is not just bombarded from the start and d I think for any content that is age restricted or ad restricted we also need those systems in place where we should be able to know exactly what is being restricted if I am being ad restricted for something it should tell me the section that it's being restricted for the morgue attendant it was obvious because they said it was for self harm there was an obvious section in that game that showed that so I didn't have to guess I can edit that if I want I don't know if they add restriction or remove the restriction of age.
I don't know how that works, which again is a problem, but I also feel that if we restrict age or advertising or something is flagged in that video, we should be told what the copyright system looks like so we can know what to cut, what to fix, we can start to improve. about knowing exactly what YouTube doesn't like and I feel like also if users are going to flag videos, they should also have to say especially for the more serious ones, like if there's hate speech or if there's self-harm or suicidal themes. I feel like for the sections like that, just like the morgue attendant, I feel like the user should also have to say a timestamp of where those things are now, maybe there are reasons not to do that that I don't know why.
I don't run the company and I don't know the type of I don't know how any of these things could potentially backfire but I feel like that's a step in the right direction as well just clarity and communication across all systems is what we need and what YouTube needs and then everyone. it just knows where we are and we can go ahead and make content a little bit more precise and a little bit fairer, but right now we're in the kind of nebulous space where we don't know that some people on YouTube obviously know the system is better than it is. that I would because I don't get into the weeds but it's really confusing there's too much in it that I just don't understand and I feel like those things need to change and again I want to make these videos to kind of uh Pioneer some change and actually give feedback and give some potential solutions to things and that's what I hope everyone wants to do instead of just yelling at the problem and telling YouTube they suck and bringing back the dislikes and that kind of thing because that's not helping anything that isn't this is how you do the switch anyway thats all i wanted to say right now not much but just because of what has happened in the last week since my last video many c oses have changed and my
youtube rep also clarified a lot of things about swearing and likes. like the malfunctioning videos and all that, and that made it really clear to me that swearing wasn't as important as I originally thought it was, but now the system is much better at detecting swear vs. hate speech vs. words that actually they're largely not allowed and there's a certain amount of swearing like you're swearing back to back to back obviously you're going to get flagged for things um but just hearing those things and having someone the person I can talk to on
youtube is really nice and I know that not everyone who makes YouTube has that opportunity, so that's another reason for making these videos, it's just to give my experience on what's going on because I have the privilege. to be able to talk to them about it, so again we love hearing from you in the comments if there's anything else you'd like to see comments on or YouTube needs to know about.
I met him and we talked about a bunch of different systems and a bunch of different things that were going on on the platform what people are complaining about and what people on my end don't like and what people on their end like The viewers don't like it either and I think a lot of those comments will come back and hit their ears if that gets implemented. I have no idea it's up to them um and all I can do is what I've done but that's for me uh thanks for watching and I'll see you qu never
